Phoenix Opera

Arizona’s most exciting opera company is dedicated to presenting magnificent traditional operas. Audiences delight in the most beautiful voices, exquisite costumes, and sensational sets! The fully restored Orpheum Theatre, the last remaining example of palace theatre architecture in Phoenix, is the home of Phoenix Opera and enhances the opera experience with its “jewel-box” setting and excellent acoustics.

Drawn from a repertoire of popular works from the late 18th through early 20th centuries, the Phoenix Opera productions are literally the favorite operas of all time! Founded in 2005 by Gail Dubinbaum and John Massaro, Phoenix Opera presented the elegant La Boheme in the 2007/2008 season, followed by the grandeur of Aida and the splendor of Tosca in the 2008/2009 season, and in the 2009/2010 season, the sizzling hot Carmen and the hauntingly romantic favorite, Madame Butterfly.

About the Orpheum

The Orpheum Theater Interior
The Orpheum Theatre is an intimate setting for opera performances with only 1,062 seats in the main orchestra level and 302 seats in the balcony.   Built it 1929 in the Spanish Baroque Revival Style, the Orpheum is a gorgeous backdrop for opera performances!  The theatre is the only theatre designated “historic” in the valley, and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1985.
